A little 80s New Wave band who sound remarkably like The Police. I have a strong sense of recognition of this one - I'm sure I've heard it before, on a cassette compilation mixtape. (According to Youtube, there were in fact two separate versions of this song, the first by the same band in 1982 as Mannequin, with much more UFO rather than Golden Age sci-fi lyrics. But I like this one best).

Full Moon Tan, "Believe In Aliens", 1983

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4cH7rm5DzE

Do you believe in aliens?
Do you believe in aliens?

The greatest thrill a man could own
Face to face with a life unknown

Do you believe in aliens?
Do you believe in aliens?

A chosen few accept the task
That man's reach should exceed his grasp
Forget the reasons to be afraid
Forget that you might run away

Do you believe in aliens?
Do you believe in aliens?

Across the frontiers in our dream
Worlds that we have never seen
The night star might point the clue
Opening a world for me and you

Do you believe in aliens?
Do you believe in aliens?
Do you believe in aliens?
Do you believe in aliens?

(The 1982 Mannequin version ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQEigHsQ3mY ) is also intriguing for its lyric 'The triangle won't go away, they've showed us that they're here to stay... late last night up in the sky, a black spaceship came flashing by...') Black triangles had appeared as early as 1982, then?

Nylons, "This Island Earth", 1987

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9FwolBqHbg

Calling all dreamers and optimistic fools
Don't let go of your dream make it now make it all come true
If you believe in a brighter day
I know we can find our way

To this island, in a starry ocean
Poetry in motion, this island earth
Spinnin' like a dancer, gravity is the answer
Rendezvous in the blue, this island earth

We don't know what's in store today
We can spread our wings and we can soar away
Or we can go like the dinosaurs, they say
The choice is ours to make

All this seems like yesterday
We can wake up one day and be history
Or stick around to unravel the mystery
Of how we came to be

On this island, in a starry ocean
Poetry in motion, this island earth
A beautiful oasis for all the human races
The only home that we know, this island earth

Well I know we can touch the stars one day
Kick up the dust on Mars one day
Or trip the light of the Milky Way
We've got to find our way

If you're lookin' for a miracle open your eyes
There was one this morning just about sunrise
Dawn came breakin' like a wave on the sea
And it's there for you and me

Calling all dreamers and optimistic fools
Don't let go of your dream make it now make it all come true
If you believe in a brighter day
I know we can find our way

To this island, in a starry ocean
She's poetry in motion, this island earth
Spinnin' like a dancer, gravity is the answer
Rendezvous in the blue, this island earth

Whoa, this island earth
Got to find our way
Whoa, this island earth
Whoa, this island earth

Something interesting has been happening to some of our rock bands in the last couple of years. Some of them seem to be newly tuning into some source of 'cosmic energy'.

Yes released their 21st studio album in 2014: "Heaven and Earth"

"Light of the Ages"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH5bt9Cm7X0
https://genius.com/Yes-light-of-the-ages-lyrics

When troubles lay me low
As fierce winds blow
Turn my gaze beyond
To ride the inbound stream
There grace and mercy shine
And fear is a dream
Sorrow’s a dream

When darkness holds me down
And trials abound
Lift my gaze within
I’ll heed the primal sound
Exposing the grand scheme
I can see it’s a dream
Sorrow’s a dream

And the beacon is shining
‘Cross the cosmos, it’s guiding
Igniting the pathway for us
Through the winter of our lives
A faithful polestar arises
Within every heart
The courage to advance
Past our plight at this stage is
The light of the ages

And FM (the Canadian sci-fi rockers I quoted above) have some very interesting songs on that 2015 album, "Transformation" . Except for the first, they haven't made it to Youtube or the lyrics sites yet, but there are previews here:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/trans ... d988875139

The undeniable truth
The indescribable joy
The unmistakable source of universal love

Every battle reminds
Nothing ever is won
And the Love Bomb
Older and wiser than time
Knows its over and done

When we live for today
When we stop keeping score
And the Love Bomb
Waiting for someone to say
"We will make love not war"

Now put down the sword
And pick up the key
To unlock the door
